The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Kentucky Wildcats meet on Thursday in Starkville for a SEC college football battle.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are .500 for the season but they have been disappointing for the most part thus far. The MSU offense is averaging 30.5 points and 457.5 yards per game but they just haven’t even been competitive against the better teams. QB Tyler Russell was banged up earlier this year and he was replaced by Dak Prescott and both bring a different skill set to the table and both have been playing even though Russell appears healthy. Prescott leads Mississippi State in rushing averaging 7.1 yards per carry and LaDarius Perkins is next with a 5.0 yard per carry average and a touchdown as well as 10 receptions. There isn’t a lot to the Bulldog passing game and Jameon Lewis has 23 catches with three touchdowns and Robert Johnson and Joe Morrow have 13 catches each. The Mississippi State defense allows 23 points and 364.5 yards per game and they have five interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and eight sacks. Bernardrick McKinney has 36 tackles, Deontae Skinner has 34 tackles, and Nickoe Whitley has 25 tackles and three interceptions. Mississippi State seems to win the games they should win and get run over in the ones they lose.

The Kentucky Wildcats have lost four games in a row and while they knew it would be a rebuilding year they had been hoping for better results than what they have been seeing. The UK offense has struggled averaging just 20.3 points per game and 352.3 yards. Maxwell Smith has completed 55.4 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and an interception and Jalen Whitlow has completed 65.8 percent of his passes with thee touchdowns and an interception. Jojo Kemp is averaging 5.9 yards per carry rushing the football while Raymond Sanders is averaging 4.9 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Kentucky’s receivers are led by Javess Blue with 24 receptions and two touchdowns, Ryan Timmons has 20 catches and a touchdown, and Alex Montgomery has 13 catches. Defensively Kentucky is allowing 29.3 yards and 437.3 points per game with one interception and six fumble recoveries and 12 sacks. Avery Williamson has 64 tackles, Eric Dixon has 31 tackles, and Za’Darius Smith has 4.5 sacks. The Wildcats are a work in progress and they have a lot of work to do.
Mississippi State is 5-2 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 11-5 against the spread in their last 16 home games, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven SEC games. Kentucky is 4-1 against the spread after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game, 4-12 against the spread in their last 16 games overall, and 3-13 in the last 16 home games. The Road team has covered the point spread in six of the last seven meetings of these two.
