The Ball State Cardinals take their winning ways on the road to face the Akron Zips Saturday.
Ball State's combination of scoring and defense has been too much for opponents to handle and was definitely too much for Western Michigan in a 38-17 decision. In the process the Cardinals won number five in a row and improved to 4-0 in the MAC West to keep pace with Northern Illinois. Ball State racked up a 484-368 edge in real estate with 25 first downs with Jahwan Edwards and Horatio Banks providing a threat on the ground with 159 yards and a touchdown each although it was the right arm of Keith Wenning that carried the day. Wenning completed 25-38 for 324 yards with 42 and 27 yards scoring tosses.

Akron might not look improved to the average fan but for some one that follows the MAC I can definitely say they are despite their record. The Zips improved to 2-6 following a 24-17 road victory over Miami (Ohio) behind a solid defensive performance. Akron out gained the Redhawks 375-303 with some ability to both run and throw while Miami (Ohio) struggled to do anything on the ground. Jawon Chisholm paced the rushing attack with 84 yards on 15 carries with three trips to the end zone. Conor Hundley added another 56 yards on 12 totes to give the ground attack a pair of quality threats on the ground. Kyle Pohl was stong in the air with an effective short passing game with a 23-32 effort for 227 yards that was an extention of the running attack.
Ball State is one of the elite teams in the MAC but I am some what suspicious of Akron here and definitely think a cover is a possibility so tread lightly and might consider the Zips if the line goes much higher...
