The Florida Seminoles host the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon.
The Florida State Seminoles are coming off a huge blowout win at Clemson, 51-14, on Saturday night and are a perfect 6-0 on the season. Florida State produced an impressive 565 total yards, controlled the clock, and picked up 8 of 12 3rd down conversions. Redshirt freshman QB Jameis Winston threw for 444 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Winston completed 22 of 34 passes and threw one interception. WR Rashad Greene caught eight passes for 146 yards and two scores, including a 72-yard sprint that made it 24-7 Florida State in the second quarter. TE Nick O’Leary caught 5 balls for 161 yards, while RB Devonta Freeman rushed 21 times for 84 yards and a score. Florida State’s defense held the high-powered Clemson offense to only 326 total yards and forced 4 turnovers. Clemson’s QB Boyd was limited to only 156 yards passing and he threw two interceptions in the loss. The Seminoles broke a five-game losing streak at Memorial Stadium, scored more points than any opponent ever has in Death Valley and gave fourth-year coach Jimbo Fisher his biggest victory since taking over for Bobby Bowden. Florida State is also perfect through six games for the first time since 1999, the last time Bowden’s Seminoles won the national championship.

The NC State Wolfpack fell to 3-3 on the season after losing to Syracuse 24-10 at home two weeks ago. The Wolfpack won their first two games of the season and since then have dropped three out of their last four games. NC State ranks 27th in points allowed with 21.2 per game; however, the most points they have given up all year came at Wake Forest, their only road game thus far this year, where they allowed 28 points. The Wolfpack generate a ton of pressure up front on defense and do a good job putting pressure on opponent’s offensive lines and quarterbacks. NC State has done fairly well against the run defensively this year, but has some weaknesses in the secondary that have burned them. NC State ranks 90th in points scored at 24.7 points per game. The Wolfpack are led by QB Pete Thomas, who has thrown for 1,314 yards and three touchdowns this season. WR Underwood is Thomas’s main target, catching a team high 30 balls so far this season for 357 yards with one touchdown. Thomas has also rushed for 184 yards and 2 touchdowns, while RB Dayes has chipped in with 188 yards on the ground with 4 touchdowns. The Wolfpack are coming off their bye week so they will be well rested coming into face a tough Florida State squad.
The underdog is 10-1-1 ATS in their last 12 meetings. NC State is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Florida State. The over is 4-0 in Florida State’s last 4 conference games.
These two teams have split the last four meetings, including a 17-16 win for NC State last year at home. Florida State still remembers the loss at NC State last year and even with the Seminoles coming off an emotional win at Clemson last week, they will be highly motivated for this game. Florida State beat NC State 34-0 two years ago at home and I see a similar outcome this week. Even with a week off the NC State offense will have trouble scoring more than 10 points in this one. Meanwhile, Winston and the Seminoles offense will put up 40 plus once again. The number is set over four touchdowns, but I see no reason not to back the Seminoles at home in this contest.
