The Pittsburgh Panthers play the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday afternoon.

Navy fell to 3-3 on the year after losing in overtime at Toledo, 45-44, this past weekend. The Midshipmen gained 514 total yards in the loss, with 419 yards coming thru their rushing attack. QB Keenan Reynolds completed 5 of 12 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for three short touchdowns. RB Noah Copeland led Navy on the ground with 153 yards rushing. Navy ranks 6th in rushing yards with just over 300 yards per game on the ground. The Midshipmen rank 65th in points scored at 29.7 per game. Reynolds has thrown for 562 yards and 3 touchdowns, while also rushing for 453 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. RB DeBrandon Sanders has 9 catches for 176 yards and a touchdown this season, while FB Chris Swain has 263 yards rushing with 3 touchdowns for Navy. Navy allowed 426 yards on defense as they had trouble stopping Toledo’s rushing attack, giving up 321 yards on the ground. The Midshipmen forced one turnover and did a great job controlling the clock despite losing the game in the end. The Midshipmen rank 52nd in points allowed, giving up 25.2 points per game this season.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Panthers improved to 4-2 on the year after beating Old Dominion 35-24 on Saturday. The Panthers produced 370 total yards, with 266 coming on the ground. Senior QB Tom Savage completed 11 of 18 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Junior RB Isaac Bennett rushed for a whopping 240 yards and 3 touchdowns. Freshman WR Tyler Boyd caught 6 balls for 46 yards in the win. Pittsburgh ranks 65th in points scored, averaging over 29 points per game this season. Savage has thrown for 1,343 yards and 11 touchdowns this year. Bennett leads the team in rushing with 450 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Boyd leads the team in receiving with 31 catches for 491 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Panthers allowed 405 total yards to Old Dominion but were able to force one turnover in the game. Pittsburgh struggled against the pass defensively, but played well against the run, giving up only 93 yards rushing. Pittsburgh ranks a lousy 74th in points allowed, giving up over 28 points per contest this year.

Pittsburgh is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games against an Independent and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS loss. Navy is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against the ACC.

Pittsburgh has won the last two matchups with Navy, including a 27-14 win at home in 2009. Pittsburgh has been inconsistent this year, but I think they have the edge against Navy in this game. Pittsburgh should be able to contain Navy’s triple-option attack, while exploiting Navy’s defense with their own rushing attack. Navy doesn’t fair well when they are outgained on the ground and I believe they will be in this game. I’ll take Pittsburgh to win by at least a touchdown on the road.
