The UNLV Rebels square off with the Nevada Wolf Pack in Saturday night action.

Don't look now but UNLV is still alive in the postseason conversation which isn't what we normally see this late in the year. However an improved offense has gone a long way towards their success but couldn't save them in a 38-14 loss to Fresno State. It was just too much Bulldogs who rolled up nearly 650 yards while the Rebels mustered 294 yards. UNLV 79 rushing yards from Shaquille Murray-Lawrence while Tim Cornett added 49 yards on ten totes but neither was enough to keep up with the Fresno attack. Caleb Herring completed 27-41 for 161 yards and a touchdown but it didn't stretch the field and the Rebels needed points in a hurry.

Brian Losness-USA TODAY Sports

Nevada is in must win mode from here on out if they expect to receive a Bowl invitation but the schedule isn't exactly a cake walk. If the Wolf Pack are sidelined for the postseason they will be looking back on their defense which has allowed points in bunches with most of the yards given up through the air. In a 34-17 loss to Boise State the defense was rock solid the first 30 minutes with the team holding a 17-7 lead before falling apart over the final four quarters. At the final gun both sides of the ball came up short with the Broncos leading the yardage battle 557-373 with the ability to both run and throw. Nevada received a combined 119 rushing yards from Kendall Brock and Chris Solomon which put the focus on Cody Fajardo and the air attack. Fajardo went 22-29 for 208 but most everything was underneath with Brandon Wimberly hauling in eleven balls for 121 yards.

Not one of my favorite games because both teams struggle defensively so I am simply leaning to the team that might be able to most of the scoring. I'll back Nevada but I'm not 100% confident...
