The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets travel to Virginia to play the Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon.
Georgia Tech improved to 4-3 on the year after beating Syracuse 56-0 last weekend. The Yellow Jackets started off 3-0 before losing three straight games to Virginia Tech, Miami, and BYU. Against Syracuse, the Yellow Jackets produced 482 yards on offense with 394 coming on the ground. RB Zach Laskey had three of Georgia Tech’s seven rushing touchdowns and finished with 75 yards on the ground. QB Vad Lee completed 3 of 3 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown, as Georgia Tech stayed true to their ground game all day long. The Yellow Jackets rank 5th in the country in rushing yards per game, averaging 304.4 per contest. Lee has only thrown for 846 yards and 8 touchdowns this year, but also has 354 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns. Senior RB David Sims has rushed for 409 yards and 6 touchdowns, while senior RB Robert Godhigh has caught 10 balls for 188 yards and two scores this season. The Georgia Tech defense played well, giving up only 208 yards to Syracuse with only 75 coming on the ground. The Yellow Jackets forced three turnovers and did a great job getting off the field on third down. Georgia Tech ranks 17th in points allowed, giving up 19.1 per game, while ranking 29th in points scored at 36 per game.

The Virginia Cavaliers dropped their fourth straight game, losing to Duke at home 35-22 last weekend. Virginia started off the season at 2-1 before losing four straight games to Pittsburgh, Ball State, Maryland, and now Duke. Against Duke, the Cavaliers produced 363 yards on offense, with only 100 coming on the ground. QB David Watford finished 20 of 38 for 263 yards with one touchdown and an interception. RB Kevin Parks finished with 50 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, while hauling in 6 balls for 88 yards and a touchdown. The Cavaliers rank a lousy 101st in points scored; only scoring 22.3 points per game this season. Watford has thrown for 1,339 yards with 5 touchdowns this year. Parks has rushed for 560 yards and 8 touchdowns this year, while also catching 25 balls for 270 yards and a touchdown. The Cavaliers allowed Duke to gain 472 yards on offense, with 180 coming on the ground. Virginia held a 22-7 lead at halftime and were outscored 28-0 in the second half, as Duke converted four fourth down plays to come back and win the game. Virginia ranks 75th in points against, giving up 28.4 points per game this season.
Georgia Tech is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings at Virginia. The home team is 10-3 ATS in their last 13 meetings. The favorite is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 meetings.
Georgia Tech has won three of the last four meetings with Virginia, including a 56-20 win last year at home. Georgia Tech had a rough stretch of games against strong competition but they did a great job bouncing back last week against Syracuse. Virginia on the other hand is falling apart after losing four straight games and giving up a 22 point lead to Duke last week. Virginia has a better rush defense than pass, but that may not be saying much for a team that has given up at least 27 points in the last three games. Georgia Tech should be able to move the ball on the ground and take some shots down field, while the defense should hold Virginia under 20 points. I think Georgia Tech wins by two touchdowns on the road.
