The Akron Zips play host to MAC rival the Kent State Golden Flashes in week ten action on Saturday.
It looks like Kent State won't be going Bowling after a a 41-31 loss to visiting Buffalo saddled the team with four consecutive defeats. Not much to say except the team has not been scoring enough points or getting enough stops on defense with both trends hurting them against the Bulls. Being banged up only hurt the Golden Flashes more as UB rolled up 491-380 advantage in yards with a pair of turnovers and eight penalties adding to the frustration. Dr Archer was a non factor with 35 rushing and 35 receiving yards with Trayion Durham leading the team in rushing with a 12 carry, 57 yard effort. Colin Reardon and his bum ankle went 20-30 for 260 yards with a score and two interceptions with Chris Humphrey and Casey Pierce combining for 144 receiving yards. The defense struggled to control a balanced Bulls offense that was able to run and throw effectively.

On paper Akron matched Ball State in yardage with both teams totaling around 435 yards each but the difference was the Cardinals found the end zone often and the Zips committed three turnovers. Akron had their ground game working with 226 yards and over five yard average with Jawon Chisholm rambling for 166 yards on 26 carries including a 65 yard scoring jaunt. The problem was Ball State led 28-10 and forced the Zips and Kyle Pohl to the air more often then they wanted. Pohl had som accuracy issues, completing 17-35 for 211 yards with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions and the Cardinals took advantage by turning field position in to points in a game that might have been a bit closer if not for miscues.
I'm probably going against the grain but I think Akron has a shot here but the bottom line is these teams are 2-7 so who knows...
