FIU Stadium and the Florida International Golden Panthers host the East Carolina Pirates Saturday.
East Carolina has positioned themselves well in the CUSA East at 3-1 with 1/2 game lead over Marshall for first. The Pirates are coming off a bye after they had a few weeks to enjoy their 55-14 pounding of a struggling Southern Mississippi. ECU has had issues on the defensive side of the football but have been formiddable offensively and and defensively in 2013. Southern Mississippi found that out as East Carolina laed 31-0 at the break and 55-0 after three quarters before easing up. The Pirates totaled 476 yards and held the Golden Eagles to only 233 yards and 12 first downs while ECU rode their passing attack. The ground game saw Vintavious Cooper and Breon Allen combining for 108 yards on 24 totes but little else. That wasn't an issue with Shane Carden enjoying a near perfect performance as he completed 30-37 for 308 yards and three TD's with Justin Hardy grabbing ten balls for 126 yards.

If you follow Florida International you are well aware that points are at a premium so when the defense comes up with a strong performance the game has to go in to the win column. The defense played well enough versus Louisiana Tech but no scoring resulted in a 23-7 defeat at home. The Bulldogs mustered a 333-197 edge in real estate as the Golden Panthers could not establish the run with less then 75 yards and could not hold on to the football with a lost fumble and a pair of interceptions. Jake Medlock struggled to move the chains through the air as well by completing 11-26 for 128 yards with a 38 yard scoring toss to Jonnu Smith in the third quarter that cut the lead to 9-7 but the Golden Panthers were stymied the rest of the way.
A well rested East Carolina with plenty to play for is a tall task for FIU. Laying the points on the road isn't great situation but it might be the right choice...
