The North Carolina Tar Heels travel to NC State to play the Wolfpack on Saturday afternoon.
The Tar Heels improved to 2-5 overall, 1-3 ACC, after beating Boston College at home 34-10 last weekend. The Tar Heels snapped a 4-game losing streak and a 2-game losing streak at home on Saturday. North Carolina produced almost 400 yards of offense against Boston College and did not turn the ball over once. QB Bryn Renner completed 18 of 21 passes for 227 yards with 2 touchdowns. TE Eric Ebron caught 4 balls for 67 yards. RB Romar Morris chipped in with 9 carries for 33 yards. Renner has thrown for 1,641 yards and 10 touchdowns this season for the Tar Heels. Ebron has caught a team-high 35 balls for 599 yards and 3 touchdowns this season. RB A.J. Blue and Morris have rushed for a combined 453 yards and 4 touchdowns this year for North Carolina. The Tar Heels offense ranks a lousy 88th in the country in points scored, averaging 25 points per game. The Tar Heels defense played great against Boston College, allowing only 261 yards and forcing one turnover in the win. North Carolina did a great job getting off the field on 3rd down. Until the final five meaningless minutes, Boston College only took five snaps in North Carolina territory. The Tar heels defense ranks 70th in points allowed, giving up almost 28 points per contest.

The NC State Wolfpack dropped to 3-4 overall, 0-4 ACC, after getting blown out on the road against Florida State, 49-17, on Saturday. The Wolfpack have now lost 3 straight games after starting the year off at 3-1. Against Florida State, NC State produced just 316 total yards and turned the ball over 3 times. The Wolfpack had QB Brandon Mitchell back for the first time since breaking his foot in the season opener. Mitchell completed 17 of 33 passes for 128 yards with two interceptions. RB Shadrach Thornton led the team in both receiving and rushing in the loss. Thornton rushed for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. Thornton also caught 5 balls for 32 yards, while WR Bryan Underwood caught 2 balls for only 25 yards for NC State. Thornton has rushed for 357 yards and 4 touchdowns, while Underwood leads the team in receiving with 32 catches for 382 yards this season. The Wolfpack offense ranks 92nd in points scored, averaging over 23 points per contest this year. The defense gave up over 560 total yards to the Seminoles, but did force 2 turnovers. However, Florida State pulled most of their starters early into the second half, so it could have been worse for the Wolfpack. NC State’s defense ranks an average 56th in the country in points allowed, giving up just over 25 points per game.
The Tar Heels are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings. The underdog is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings. The home team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings.
NC State has won five out of the last six games against North Carolina, but the Tar Heels won at home by 8 last season. The Tar Heels are 0-2 on the road, while the Wolfpack are 3-2 at home. Both of these defenses are not that good and there should be plenty of opportunities to score in this game. North Carolina will pass the ball frequently, as Renner and Ebron have become an outstanding combo. Meanwhile, NC State should have no problem running the ball against a weak front seven for North Carolina. I think this game is close and high scoring, so I’ll take the points with the home team and the over.
