The San Diego State Aztecs play host to MWC rival the New Mexico Lobos at Qualcomm Stadium.
New Mexico looks okay to me with the number three ranked rushing attack in the land at 322 yards and 33 points but they have fallen short on the defensive side that has allowed over 37 points. The Lobos fell short on both sides of the ball in a 45-10 loss to visiting Utah State a the Aggies took a 31-3 lead with them in to the half and were never challenged. UNM dependency on their rushing attack hurt them here with with 43 runs resulting in 160 yards and just over 3 1/2 yards per try. David Vega and Kasey Carrier were the lone source of a run attack with 116 yards on 21 totes. The three quarterback combo went 11-20 for 140 yards which didn't get the Lobos anything on the scoreboard while USU rolled up nearly 500 yards.

With five games remaining San Diego State has to finish strong or their postseason dreams are gone. That won't be an easy task with a few tough customers remaining to be played although not impossible. The Aztecs could have made their life easier as they had Fresno State on the ropes before a 35-28 overtime defeat dropped them to an uncomfortable 3-4 on the year. Adam Muema gave the Bulldogs something to think about on the ground with a 27 carry, 127 yard effort with a pair of trips to the end zone. Quinn Kaehler completed 21-39 for 337 yards with an interception so the Aztecs moved the chains. The problem was stopping Derek Carr who threw for 298 yards and a fumble that gave Fresno State a big seven points.
New Mexico should be well rested with a few weeks off to prepare which might not be easy for San Diego State. The kicker is the Aztecs stop the run and that's all the Lobos do so something has to give in this must win for SDSU. I'll back them but it doesn't feel right...
