The Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers on Saturday night.
Notre Dame improved to 7-2 on the season after winning their fourth straight game on Saturday against Navy, 38-34. The Irish have lost to Michigan and Oklahoma, while beating Michigan State, Arizona State, and USC this season. Against Navy, Notre Dame gained 506 total yards, but turned the ball over twice. QB Tommy Rees threw for 242 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. RB Tarean Folston rushed for 140 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown. WR TJ Jones caught a team high 4 balls for 111 yards and a touchdown. Rees has thrown for 2,186 yards and 22 touchdowns this season. RB Cam McDaniel leads the team with 464 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, while Jones leads the team with 742 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns. The Notre Dame offense ranks 67th in points scored, averaging 29 points per game this season. Notre Dame struggled to slow down Navy’s triple option offense, giving up 419 total yards and 331 yards on the ground. The Irish defense ranks 40th in points allowed, giving up 23 points per contest.

The Pittsburgh Panthers dropped their second straight game, 21-10, to Georgia Tech on Saturday dropping them to 4-4 overall, 2-3 in the ACC. The Panthers only gained 228 yards against Georgia Tech on Saturday. QB Tom Savage threw for 233 yards with one touchdown and one interception. RB Isaac Bennett rushed only 6 times for 16 yards, while WR Devin Street caught only 5 balls for 45 yards in the loss. Savage has thrown for 1,779 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Bennett leads the team with 543 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns, while Street has a team-high 690 yards and 4 touchdowns for Pittsburgh this season. The Panthers rank 81st in points scored, averaging just over 26 points per game this season. The Panthers allowed 360 total yards to the Yellow Jackets and forced 2 turnovers. Pittsburgh ranks 67th in points allowed, giving up less than 27 points per game this year. Pittsburgh will head back home for this game where they are 3-1 on the season so far.
The under is 14-3 in Notre Dame’s last 17 games against the ACC. The under is 9-3-1 in Notre Dame’s last 13 road games. The under is 5-0 in Pittsburgh’s last 4 games overall and 4-0 against a team with a winning record. The road team is 6-1-1 in their last 8 meetings.
Notre Dame has won the last three meetings between these two schools, including a 3 point win at home last year. Pittsburgh should have won the game last year, but Notre Dame was able to come away with a win and eventually move on to the National Championship game. As much as Pittsburgh may want revenge, I don’t think they have the talent and firepower to beat Notre Dame this year. I think Notre Dame will go on the road and show the Panthers that they are much better than what they showed in last year’s matchup. I’m taking the Irish to win by 10 in a low scoring game.
