The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets travel to Death Valley to play the Clemson Tigers on Thursday night.
Georgia Tech improved to 6-3 overall, 5-2 ACC, after beating Pittsburgh 21-10 two weeks ago. The Yellow Jackets have won three straight games after dropping three in a row back in October. Against Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech gained 360 total yards on offense, with 276 coming on the ground. QB Vad Lee threw only 10 times for 84 yards for the Yellow Jackets. RB Sims and RB Godhigh combined for 183 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. The Yellow Jackets run the triple-option attack very well but they have a tendency of turning the ball over sometimes, turning it over twice against Pittsburgh. Georgia Tech ranks 38th in points scored, averaging just over 34 points per game this season. The defense played well against Pittsburgh, recording a season-high five sacks and holding the Panthers to only 228 total yards. The Yellow Jackets rank 14th in points allowed, giving up less than 19 points per contest this season. Georgia Tech will head out on the road where they are 2-2 on the season.

The Clemson Tigers improved to 8-1 overall, 6-1 ACC, after blowing out Virginia 59-10 two weeks ago. Clemson started off the season 6-0 before losing to Florida State, but since then they have won two conference road games. Against Virginia, Clemson produced over 600 yards of offense and only turned the ball over once. QB Tajh Boyd completed 24 of 29 passes for 377 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. WR Sammy Watkins had a terrific day with 8 catches for 169 yards with 2 touchdowns. Boyd has thrown for 2,620 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, while Watkins has 982 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. The Tigers rank 16th in points scored, averaging less than 40 points per game. The Tigers defense allowed only 277 yards against the Cavaliers and forced 3 turnovers in the win. Clemson ranks 23rd in points allowed, giving up just over 20 points per game this season. Clemson comes back home for this game on Thursday; the Tigers are 4-1 in Death Valley this year.
These two teams have split the last two meetings, with Clemson winning last year by 16 points at home. Georgia Tech has struggled against teams that can pass the ball which doesn’t setup well for the Yellow Jackets against Boyd and Watkins. Clemson should have its way through the air as long as they can protect Boyd in the pocket. Clemson will have a chip on the shoulder since they got blown out the last time they were on national television. I think Georgia Tech will find some space to run, but they will not have enough firepower to keep up with Clemson. I’ll take the Tigers to win by two touchdowns in a high scoring game.
