The Marshall Thundering Herd take their high powered offense on the road to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
Marshall stayed in line for the CUSA East title with a convincing 56-14 victory over Alabama-Birmingham. Offense has been the name of the game for this squad who is averaging over 43 points but the defense has been just as impressive allowing only 21 points. The Blazers received a heavy dose of both with the Thundering Herd logging over 650 yards and ripping off chunks of yardage. The rushing attack put on quite a display with three players running for over 100 yards. Steward Butler (7-139), Essray Taliaferro (12-118) and Kevin Grooms (8-108) doing the damage while Rakeem Cato was strong in the air as well with a 14-20 effort resulting in 276 yards with three touchdowns.

This isn't the same Golden Hurricane squad we have been accustomed to seeing over the years with neither side of the ball able to put forth strong performances on a consistent basis. Those struggles continued against high powered East Carolina in a 58-24 defeat for loss number three in a row with the Pirates piling up over 500 yards with Tulsa countering with 342 yards with a lost fumble and a pair of picks adding to the misery. The rushing attack was very good with 188 yards and over 4 1/2 yard average with Trey Watts leading with 120 yards on 27 carries and a touchdown. Unfortunately Tulsa needed a big day in the air that never materialized with Dane Evans completing 14-33 for a touchdown and a pair of interceptions includind a 100 yards pick six as time expired.
Marshall certainly has the firepower to cover the big number but asking them to win big all the time makes me wary because it just doesn't happen in any sport so I'm going with potential and with this as you will...
