The Fighting Illini are in for a challenge on Saturday when Illinois hosts the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are sitting at 3-6 this season following their loss to Indiana on Saturday, 52-35. The Illini held with the Hoosiers for awhile, but Indiana’s offense was too much for the Illini to keep pace with. Illinois, with Scheelhaase under center is deceptively good through the air, as Illinois ranked 23rd in the nation in passing yardage per game, but the ground attack has been horrible, averaging just over 136 yards per game this season. On top of that, the Illini have one of the worst scoring defenses in the nation, ranking 106th giving up 34.7 points per average per game.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are rolling right now as OSU is on a mission to try and take over one of the two top spots in the BCS. It doesn’t look like it will happen however, as the Crimson Tide and the Seminoles keep rolling teams. The Buckeyes are right there if one of those two teams should slip up, and to secure their place, OSU has been beating the tar out of teams lately. The Buckeyes are coming off wins over Purdue and Penn State, winning those two games by a combined total of 97-38. Don’t expect the Buckeyes to take their foot off the gas against Illinois either, as OSU knows they need all the style points they can get if they want any shot at a national title.
The total has gone over in five of the last seven games for the Buckeyes, and the total has also gone over in four of the last six games for Ohio State on the road. The Buckeyes are 2-4 against the spread in their last six games on the road against Illinois, and the total has gone under in five of the last six games between OSU and Illinois at Illinois.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and at home, the Illini are just 3-8 overall in their last 11 games. Illinois is just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against the Buckeyes.
We are looking at a lot of points here, but I just have to take the Buckeyes. I am a bit hesitant as I could see the Illini getting a late score in garbage time to come back and get the cover, but it is unlikely.
The Buckeyes know they need to win, and win big and Illinois just looks like another pebble in their road.
