North Carolina improved to 4-5 overall, 3-3 ACC, after beating Virginia 45-14 at home on Saturday. The Tar Heels have won three straight games after losing five out of their first six games of the year. Against Virginia, North Carolina gained 415 total yards with a well balanced attack. QB Williams, starting in place of QB Renner who is out for the season, completed 15 of 28 passes for 185 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. WR Davis led the team with 5 catches for 65 yards and a touchdown. QB Renner had thrown for over 1,700 yards and 10 touchdowns this season for the Tar Heels, but will be out the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. TE Ebron has caught 46 balls for 690 yards with 3 touchdowns, while Davis has caught 37 balls for 541 yards with 8 touchdowns this year. The Tar Heels are averaging over 27 points per game, which ranks 77th in the country. The Tar Heels defense forced two turnovers against Virginia and only allowed 316 total yards. North Carolina is allowing over 25 points per game on defense, which ranks 55th in the country. The Tar Heels will head out on the road where they are 1-3 on the year.

The Pittsburgh Panthers improved to 5-4 overall, 2-3 ACC, after beating Notre Dame 28-21 at home last weekend. Pittsburgh bounced back after losing two straight game and now has a shot to become bowl eligible with one more win this season. The Panthers produced 355 total yards against Notre Dame and did not turn the ball over once. QB Savage threw for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns, while RB Bennett rushed 17 times for 57 yards. WR Street caught 4 balls for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns. Savage has thrown for over 2,000 yards with 16 touchdowns this season. Bennett has rushed for 601 yards with 5 touchdowns, while Street leads the team with 44 catches for 766 yards and 6 touchdowns this year. The Panthers are scoring over 26 points per game, which ranks 81st in the country. The Panthers allowed 451 total yards to Notre Dame last weekend, but they forced 3 turnovers in the win and controlled the clock for most of the game. Pittsburgh is allowing over 26 points per game, which ranks 63rd in the nation this year. The Panthers will stay home where they are 4-1 this season, with the only loss coming against Florida State in the season opener.
North Carolina is playing good football right now and even without Renner they have an offense that can produce points in a hurry. Williams has shown he can be the starting quarterback and he has plenty of playmakers around him to make things a bit more comfortable. Pittsburgh will be in a prime letdown spot after beating Notre Dame last weekend, a game they probably would have lost if Notre Dame’s QB Rees didn’t play so bad. I think North Carolina is the better overall team and I’ll take them to win this game by a touchdown.
