The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs invade Rice Stadium to face the Rice Owls on Saturday.
Louisiana Tech's season has boiled down to the final three games; win them and go Bowling. The Bulldogs have taken positive steps towards that goal with consecutive victories after knocking off Southern Mississippi 36-13. The defensive minded Bulldogs don't put up a lot of points but rolled up 469 yards and 24 first downs behind an explosive rushing attack that totaled 311 yards and averaged 6 1/2 yards per touch. Kenneth Dixon was the work horse with 207 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown which meant an easier day in the air for Scotty Young. Young went 22-37 for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the defense did the rest with four interceptions.

Rice has had a few weeks to shake off a disaterous second half in a 28-16 defeat at North Texas. Disaster because the Owls offense was shutout over the final 30 minutes in what appeared to be a winnable game. The Owls won the yardage battle 355-253 so the defense can't be blamed but the special teams gave up a 65 yard punt return and the offense struggled overall with three turnovers. Charles Ross paced the rushing attack with 101 yards on 18 carries but the passing game was inconsistent and made mistakes at the wrong time. Taylor McHargue completed 18-28 for 22 yards with a pair of touchdowns and two killer interceptions that turned the tide of this game in favor of the Mean Green.
Big spreads and Rice as a favorite always makes me pause because in my mind this team isn't built to walk all over opponents. I'll cautiously back them here but I don't think this is a great betting opportunity...
