The Southern Methodist Mustangs host the lowly UConn Huskies this Saturday at 3PM on ESPN3.
SMU fell to 2-2 in AAC play this past weekend as another late, 4th quarter rally this time fell short for the Mustangs and Cincinnati held on for the 28-25 win. The Mustangs were solid through the air as Garrett Gilbert threw for 403 yards and 2 touchdowns for the nations top passing offense. In addition, SMU did not turn the ball over once. Where SMU fell short was in the run game -- the Mustangs managed just 48 rushing yards and were unable to keep Cincinnati off the field. SMU also racked up nearly 80 penalty yards -- a recipe for disaster in a hostile road environment. With the loss, the Mustangs now must win out to become bowl eligible.

UConn fell to 0-8 on the year this past weekend as the Louisville Cardinals came to town and dominated the Huskies on both sides of the ball en route to the 31-10 win. UConn only managed to score 10 points and gain 237 yards total against the stingy Louisville D. Additionally, the Huskies turned the ball over 5 times and failed to throw for a touchdown. Freshman quarterback Tim Boyle threw for just 113 yards and 3 picks and now has 8 interceptions for the season to go along with his zero TD passes. To make matters worse, no UConn tailback rushed for more than 40 yards. This game would have been quite a bit more out of hand had Louisville not committed 101 penalty yards.
Some trends to consider -- SMU is 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 home games and UConn is 5-15 against the spread in their last 20 road contests.
This game is my lock of the week as their is no way the struggling UConn defense can stop this dynamic passing attack. Look for Garrett Gilbert to possibly have his best outing of the year as the Mustangs roll UConn for the easy cover and 3+ touchdown win at home.
