The Florida International Golden Panthers visit the Texas El Paso Miners with both teams looking or their second win.
Florida International's record can easily be explained by their offensive and defensive numbers. The Golden Panthers are scoring ten points per contest and giving up 38 and neither improved in a 48-0 loss at Middle Tennessee State. FIU was in trouble when the Blue Raiders took a 24-0 lead in to the break with the home team not letting up until late. MTSU won the battle of real estate 556-233 with the ability to run and throw equally well while the Golden Panthers struggled to do either. The ground game failed to crack the century mark with Lamarq Caldwell totaling 48 yards on 14 carries to lead the back field while EJ Hilliard completed 10-15 throws for 133 yards and an interception.

Texas El Paso has dropped seven straight behind and offense that has mansged only seven points in three straight. Not a good thing when when the defensive side of the football gives up well over 40 points. A 41-7 road defeat at the hands of North Texas was the latest struggle for the Miners who had problems across the board. The Mean Green totaled 471 yards while UTEP finished with 184 yards which essentially told the story. Texas El Paso has run the ball well this season but not on this day with six players combining for less then 75 yards. Mack Leftwich was the lone source of offense with a 14-20 effort in the air resulting in 128 yards for a touchdown and interception. The punt team had a kick blocked for six UNT points as the breakdowns were across the board.
Neither team makes me want to run and place a bet and the numbers tell us to look else where. I do think the Miners running game should get the job done here unless they have given up on the season...
