The Maryland Terps head to Virginia Tech to play the Hokies on Saturday afternoon.
Maryland dropped to 5-4 overall, 1-4 ACC, after losing at home to Syracuse 20-3 last weekend. The Terps gained only 292 yards on offense, with only 81 coming on the ground. QB Brown completed 21 of 40 passes for 211 yards with 2 interceptions. WR Etta-Tawo caught 6 balls for 109 yards, while WR King caught 5 balls for 65 yards. Brown has thrown for 1,473 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. Maryland lost their top two receivers and arguably their best two playmakers, Diggs and Long, to season ending injuries a few weeks ago. The Terps offense is averaging 25 points per game, which ranks 87th in the country. The Terps allowed Syracuse to gain 382 yards on offense, with 242 yards coming on the ground. The Terps were able to force 2 turnovers, but that wasn’t enough to make up for the 4 miscues on offense for Maryland. Maryland is allowing just less than 25 points per game, which ranks 52nd in the country this year. The Terps will head out on the road where they are 1-2 this season.

Virginia Tech improved to 7-3 overall, 4-2 ACC, after beating Miami on the road 42-24 on Saturday. The Hokies outgained Miami 549-352, piled up 26 first downs to Miami’s 12, went 8 for 14 on third down compared with a 3-for-12 showing by the Hurricanes, and held the ball for nearly a 2-to-1 margin. QB Thomas completed 25 of 31 passes for 366 yards with 2 touchdowns. RB Edmunds rushed 14 times for 74 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Hokies. Thomas has thrown for 2,422 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. Edmunds has a team-high 521 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns for the Hokies this year. Virginia Tech ranks 93rd in points scored, averaging 24 points per contest. Virginia Tech played great defense against the Hurricanes and the offense helped to keep the Miami offense off the field, controlling time of possession throughout the game. The Hokies defense has been playing well all year, allowing less than 18 points per game, which ranks 9th in the country. Virginia Tech will head back to Lane Stadium for this week’s game; the Hokies are 4-1 at home this year.
Virginia Tech will win this game by 20 points if they take care of the ball, especially Thomas, who has been known to throw costly interceptions in his career. Maryland will have trouble scoring against the stout Hokies defense and they’ll be lucky to produce over 13 points in this game. Meanwhile, Maryland is banged up in the secondary and Thomas should be able to take some shots downfield. Maryland has nothing to play for, while the Hokies still have a chance of reaching the ACC championship game. Virginia Tech will come out focused and will win this game by 20.
