The Massachusetts Minutemen take to the road looking to end the postseason dreams of the Central Michigan Chippewas.
Massachusetts has struggled to score and defend with their record explaining that story although the offense has probably been more of an issue. That was the case in a 14-13 defeat to visiting Akron in week 12. This was a winnable game for the Minutmen with neither team reaching 350 yards of offense with a combined five turnovers also making it a bit on the sloppy side. UMass did most of their damage on the ground with 172 yards and around four yards per touch. Jamal Wilson was the work horse with 70 yards on 22 totes with Shaquille Harris ripping off a 45 yard run on his lone carry. Mike Wegzyn (4-7/76) and AJ Doyle (13-21/75) each tossed a pick with Wegzyn tossing for the lone touchdown.

This season looks like a repeat of last year for Central Michigan...so far. The Chippewas struggled early a year ago before finishing strong and going Bowling. The Chips are trying to duplicate that performance with a pair of wins to finish the regular season with a 27-22 victory over Western Michigan being a step in the right direction. The defense might have been the star of this one with only 311 yards allowed while recording a 34 yard pick six to help out an offense that mustered just 285 yards and committed five turnovers. Zurlon Tipton returned from an ankle injury to log 114 rushing yards on 29 carries with a pair of trips to the end zone. Cooper Rush survived a mistake plagued contest with 167 yards and a score while completing 16-25 but three picks were killers.
I like Central Michigan to get the win here but their victory over Western Michigan was more fortunate and due to the Broncos being bad then anything. Hopefully the Chips clear up their mistakes in time for this match up...
