The Wisconsin Badgers head to Minnesota on Saturday to face the surging Gophers in the battle for Paul Bunyon's Axe.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are surprising the Big Ten this season as the Gophers are playing some really solid ball. Minnesota is sitting at 8-2 currently, and 4-2 in Big Ten play. The Gophers still have an outside shot at the Big Ten title game, but trailing the Badgers by two games, it seems unlikely. The Gophers will get their shot at Wiscy here though, and if the Badgers could beat Wisconsin on Saturday, things will get interesting really quick in the Legends division. The Badgers had this past weekend off to rest and prepare for the Badgers. The key word there is rest. Minnesota has had a tough road, and playing a team like Wisconsin, you want to be as rested and healthy as possible, because you know the Badgers are going to be physical. The Gophers have done well against run heavy teams this year, beating the Huskers, the Wildcats, and the Wolverines, but this will easily be their toughest challenge to date.

The Wisconsin Badgers head to Minnesota on Saturday to face the Gophers and all but lock up their spot in the Big Ten title game. The Badgers are playing excellent ball right now, winning five straight, including wins over the Wildcats, the Hawkeyes, and the BYU Cougars. The Badgers may have a new man on the sidelines this season, but Wisconsin is the same old team, the team that will ground and pound you and play you physical all game long. In their last outing, the Badgers defeated the Indiana Hoosiers 51-3. James White went off against the Hoosier defense, rushing for 205 yards and a score against the Hoosiers. This obviously isn’t the same old Gopher team the Badgers are used to facing, and with Minnesota being rested and prepared, the Badgers better be ready for the Gophers to punch them back.
The Wisconsin Badgers are quietly 9-0 against the spread this season, and in the past three seasons, the Badgers are 22-15 ATS. When playing against the Big Ten the past three seasons, the Badgers are 15-8 ATS.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are 7-3 against the spread on the year, and when playing at home the Gophers are 4-2 ATS. Also, when playing teams in the Big Ten, the Gophers are 4-2 against the spread this season.
I’ll take the Gophers at home here. Minnesota is playing inspired this season, and even though Minnesota doesn’t match up well with the Badgers on paper, I really like this team at TCF Bank Stadium. The Badgers will be tough, but the Gophers know they have a shot at the title game if they upset Wisconsin, and even though I like the Badgers to take home the axe, getting more than two touchdowns at home with this Gopher team looks like the play here.
