The Nebraska Cornhuskers head to Beaver Stadium on Saturday to square off against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are coming off of a solid win over the Purdue Boilermakers this past weekend, and now will head home to host the Nebraska Cornhuskers this Saturday. The Nittany Lions are sitting at 6-4 this season, and in the Big Ten, the Nittany Lions are 3-3. Penn State has taken a step back this season, but that was somewhat expected as the Nittany Lions brought in, and started Hackenberg under center as a true freshman quarterback. Hackenberg has played well, especially considering some of the talent around him, and looks to have a bright future with PSU. The Nittany Lions defeated the Boilermakers this past weekend 45-21 in Beaver Stadium. This game was never really that close. Purdue did bring it to within seven points early in the second quarter, but watching the game, there was no doubt that Penn State was the better team, and barring any kind of major injury or setback, would cruise. Which they did. Penn State runs a very balanced offense, which could keep the Huskers off balance a bit, but we will have to see how Hackenberg deals with the pressure that the Huskers are likely do dial up.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers fell to the Michigan State Spartans this past weekend, losing to the Spartans 41-28. Don’t be fooled by the score however as this is one of those games that was actually closer than the score says. The Huskers never led in the game, but as late as just over a minute remaining in the third quarter, the Huskers trailed Sparty by just six points. Then, as Husker fans are used to seeing, the wheels fell off. The turnover bug finally was too much for the Huskers to overcome, and the defense couldn’t contain the Spartans as MSU put up back to back scores in the fourth quarter, putting the game out of reach. I did mention turnovers right? The Huskers turned the ball over to the Spartans five times on the day, four of which were fumbles. This Husker team under Pelini has seemed to fumble the ball a lot, and while the Huskers at times have a knack of recovering their own miscue, this was not the case on Saturday, and ultimately did them in against the Spartans.
The Huskers are sitting at 5-5 against the spread this season, and when on the road, the Huskers are 2-1 against the number.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are 4-6 against the spread, and at home, the Nittany Lions are 4-2 against the number.
I don’t love it, but I’m going to take the Nittany Lions in this spot. Like I said above, the Huskers played better than they score indicated, but still a double digit loss in Lincoln is a tough pill. The Nittany Lions match up well with the Huskers here, and while I do think it will be tight, I’ll back Penn State just so long as the number stays below a field goal, which all indications are pointing that it should.
