The Purdue Boilermakers will be looking for their only win against an FBS opponent this season, when the Boilermakers head to Indiana to face the Hoosiers.
The Indiana Hoosiers have had a disappointing season this year, which kind of sounds funny considering there aren’t usually that high of expectations for the Indiana football program in the preseason. The Hoosiers offense is one of the better ones in the conference, but their defense is ranked 118th nationally in points allowed per game, which doesn’t exactly help. The Hoosiers offense is scoring an average of 36.8 points per game this year, ranking them 24th in the nation, but going up against top tier defenses the past two weeks, in the Buckeyes and the Badgers, the Hoosiers managed just a combined 17 points. Fortunately for the Hoosiers, the Boilermakers are far from the Buckeyes and the Badgers. I expect Indiana to open it up against Purdue here, trying to break their two game losing streak, and end the season on a winning note.

The Purdue Boilermakers have yet to earn a win against an FBS opponent this season, let alone earning a Big Ten wins. Purdue is ranked nearly dead last in the FBS in nearly every major category, including points for, and points against. The Boilermakers are in complete rebuilding mode, and even though Purdue fans would love nothing more than just bury the memory of this season, there is some hope for the future…possibly. The Boilermakers have been competitive the past two weeks, scoring 21 against PSU, and only falling to the Illini by four. Also, when playing Iowa three weeks ago, the Boilermakers were very much in the game at the half. This team has a long way to go, but if Purdue could somehow manage a win here against the Hoosiers, it would be a big step towards progress.
The Boilermakers are just 3-8 against the spread this season, and when listed as an underdog, the Boilermakers are 3-7 against the spread.
The Hoosiers are 5-6 against the number on the year, and are 3-2 ATS when they are the favorite.
This is a huge number in a rivalry game, but like I’ve been saying all along, I just can’t put any faith in this Purdue team. I look for Kevin Wilson to try and make a statement with his offense here, so don’t look for the Hoosiers to let off the gas at all if/when they get up on the Boilermakers.
Indiana backers may sweat it out for awhile, but look for the Hoosiers to pull away late cashing in here on Saturday.
