The Michigan State Spartans look to continue their romp through the Big Ten as the Spartans host the Golden Gophers on Saturday in East Lansing.
The Michigan State Spartans are taking care of business this season as the Spartans are 10-1 overall, and are 7-0 in Big Ten play. The lone loss for the Spartans came against the Irish clear back in September, in a game that I’m sure the Spartans would love to have back. Michigan State has one of the best defenses in the nation this season as the Spartans are ranked 4th in the FBS in points allowed per game, with an average of 12.5. The Spartans offense took awhile to get goings as MSU struggled to find a reliable signal caller, but it looks like the Spartans have one now in Connor Cook. Michigan State has had solid offensive performances in back to back games, scoring 41 at Nebraska, and 30 at Ryan Field this past weekend when the Spartans met the Northwestern Wildcats. There is a possibility of a letdown with the Spartans here after MSU clinched their ticket to the Big Ten title game, and the Gophers are hardly a hated rival of the Spartans.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have played solid ball this season, and were one of the nice surprises in the Big Ten this year. The Gophers are 8-3 on the year currently, after falling to the Badgers 20-7. The Gophers played Wisconsin tough here, but it wasn’t enough as the Gophers were outclassed by the talent of Wisconsin. Minnesota has a very solid defense this season, holding opponents to just 23.1 points per game, ranking the Gophers 37th in the nation in scoring defense. Minnesota’s offense took awhile to get rolling, especially the passing attack, and while the Gophers are far from explosive, the offense for Minny was more than enough to get the job done the majority of the time this year. Look for the Gophers to play all out in this one as Minnesota would love nothing more than to end their regular season with a win against a MSU team that is undefeated in the Big Ten.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are 8-3 against the spread this season, and when the Gophers are listed as an underdog, Minnesota is 4-2 ATS. The Gophers are also an impressive 5-2 against the spread on the year when facing Big Ten opponents.
The Michigan State Spartans are 7-3 against the spread this season, and when playing at home, the Spartans are 3-3 against the number. Against the Big Ten, like the Gophers, the Spartans have been solid, going 6-1 against the spread on the year.
I have to go with the Gophers here. Michigan State is the better team, that there is no debate, but the Spartans are going up against a tough Gopher defense here, and the Gophers are out to finish their season strong.
I don’t think the Gophers have enough offense to get the outright win against the Spartans in East Lansing, but getting more than two touchdowns looks solid in this spot.
