The San Diego Aztecs take the field at Sam Boyd Stadium where the UNLV Rebels await.
Surging San Diego State is the hottest team in the Mountain West excluding Fresno State. The Aztecs upset Boise State 34-31 in overtime to win their fourth in a row and was vidtory number seven in eight. This game had everything with the Broncos returning a kick 100 yards with SDSU returning the favor with a 41 yards while recording a pick six. The defense rose to the occasion and held Boise to just under 300 yards while their own offense totaled 349 yards with virtually no running game to lean on. Quinn Kaehler came to the rescue with a 23-37 effort for 287 yards with two touchdons and an interception.

If there was an award for pleasant surprise I would give my vote to UNLV who has suffered through many a poor season but now stand on the brink of the postseason at 6-5 with a game to go. Both sides of the ball have shown improvement with the offense showing balance with their ability to both run and throw. The Rebels kept things mostly on the ground in their 41-21 rout of Air Force on the road. The rushing attack amassed 330 yards behind work horse Tim Cornett who rambled for 220 yards on 36 carries with four touchdowns while Caleb Herring added another 56 yards and two TD's. Herring was deadly accurate in the air, completing 15-18 for 141 yards. The defense deserves credit as well by holding the Falcons to 228 yards on the ground and preventing a shootout.
I like what UNLV has done and they have improved dramatically but San Diego State has been on fire. They are not always been impressive but winning is all they have done...
