The Line: Wisconsin Badgers -24 See the Latest Odds
The Penn State Nittany Lions head to Madison on Saturday to face off against the Badgers.
The Wisconsin Badgers are coming off a solid 20-7 win over a much improved Gopher team last weekend, as the Badgers defeated the Gophers on the road. Wisconsin has played well this season, having a record of 9-2 and going 6-1 in the Big Ten, but still, anything short of a Big Ten title for this team is disappointing. The Badgers against have a crushing ground game that is ranked eighth in the nation currently, picking up an average of 297.8 yards per game. The Badgers also have a top five defense in the FBS, allowing just 13.4 points per outing. The Badgers have been rolling through the competition in the Big Ten ever since their loss to the Buckeyes back in September, but it wasn’t enough as Ohio State cruised to the title game ahead of the Badgers in the Leaders division.

The Penn State Nittany Lions have taken a step back this season, but still there is some optimism for the future with this program. Removed sanctions aside, the Nittany Lions have shown once again that they can compete with the elite teams in the Big Ten, and with just a freshman quarterback, that is promising. The Nittany Lions are 6-5 on the year, and just 3-4 in the Big Ten, after falling to the Huskers in overtime this past weekend. The Nittany Lions were unable to do their part and kick a field goal, while the Huskers converted theirs, giving them the win over PSU. Like I said, I really like this kid Hackenberg, and he has the perfect coach to groom him into a very good college quarterback, and likely an NFL prospect one day, it will just take time for this program to rebuild after all the NCAA sanctions they received.
The Penn State Nittany Lions are 4-7 against the spread on the year, and when the Nittany Lions are listed as an underdog, Penn State is just 1-3 ATS this season. Penn State is also 0-3 against the spread on the road this year.
The Wisconsin Badgers are 9-1 against the spread this season, and when the Badgers are the favorite, Wisconsin is 8-1 against the number. Also, when playing at home, Wisconsin is a perfect 6-0 ATS this season.
This is a tough call, but I’m going with the Nittany Lions here. I know all the trends point to the Badgers, but I have to think the odds makers have inflated the line a bit here because of that. Neither one of these teams have a ton to play for here, besides bragging rights, and some possible revenge here for the Badgers for last season.
The Badgers win and win easily to finish out their regular season, but giving more than three touchdowns is a bit much here, although personally I won’t be on this one come Saturday.
