The Utah State Aggies travel to Bulldog Stadium to face the Fresno State Bulldogs for the MWC title.
Utah State is an unlikely winner of Mountain Division of the MWC not because they are not a good team but because they have done it without star quarterback Chuckie Keeton. The Aggies survived the loss of their star with above average defense and solid play from back up signal caller Darell Garretson. Both had a big hand in clinching a spot in the MWC with a 35-7 rout of Wyoming. The Cowboys dangerous offense was held to only 190 yards with a pair of turnovers while totaling 310 yards themselves. Joey DeMartino led the rushing attack with 112 yards on 20 carries with a TD with Robert Marshall adding 46 yards. Garretson completed 20-29 for 156 yards for three touchdowns and a pick with field position and a 64 yard punt return carrying the day.

Fresno State was penciled in as going undefeated after escaping with a one point win over Boise State in game number three. Their were a few close ones with a narrow win over Hawaii and an overtime decision versus San Diego State that were mixed in with several routs. The perfect record went by the wayside in a 62-52 defeat at San Jose State where we saw almost 1,400 yards of offense. Josh Quezada and Marteze Waller combined for 95 yards on 12 carries which was great production but not good enough considering the track meet the Bulldogs were in. Derek Carr tried to save his team through the air with 516 passing yards with six touchdowns and a lone interception but at the final gun 547 yards from Spartans QB David Fales was even better.
The questions here are whether the Bulldogs can brush aside the disappointment and if so, can they score on the Utah State defense. Seems like a complete crap shoot so I'll take the points with a week to think it over...
