The Rutgers Scarlet Knights fell to 5-6 overall, 2-5 AAC, after losing to UConn 28-17 last weekend. Rutgers has lost three straight and 5 of their last 6 games after starting the year off 4-1. Against UConn, Rutgers gained 364 total yards with only 68 coming on the ground. QB Dodd completed 16 of 35 passes for 286 yards with 2 interceptions. WR Pratt caught 3 balls for 132 yards, while WR Peele caught 4 balls for 79 yards in the loss. RB James carried the ball 11 times for 49 yards for Rutgers, who turned the ball over 3 times against UConn. The Rutgers defense allowed 372 total yards and did not do a good job getting off the field on 3rd down last weekend. On the year, the Scarlet Knights have been average at best on both sides of the ball. Rutgers averages just over 27 points per game, which ranks 76th in the country. The defense is allowing 32 points per game, which ranks 94th in the country this season. This will be Rutgers final game of the season; the Scarlet Knights are 4-2 at home this season.
The wheels fell off for Rutgers at the mid-point of the season and they have not been able to recover since. South Florida has not played well all year and they couldn’t take advantage of a poor performance by Central Florida last week. I think these two teams are evenly matched, and I’ll take the points with the road dog.
