The Arizona State Sun Devils do battle with the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Holiday Bowl.
Arizona State closed the regular season with six consecutive victories before dropping the PAC 12 championship to Stanford which was their second to the Cardinal. The Sun Devils could do a little bit of everything are best known for their very capable offense that averaged 461 yards and and 41 points. The defense generally played well enough with only 364 yards and 26 points allowed with top 50 pass and run units. Taylor Kelly was a strong passer with 3,510 yards with 28 scores and eleven picks on 63% completions. Jaelen Strong (71-1094) and DJ Foster (58-630) were the receivers of choice with Marion Grice and Christopher Grice combining for 851 yards on 78 catches. Grice did most of his work with his legs with just under 1,000 yards on 191 totes for over five yards and 14 TD's.

Texas Tech really looked as if they had something going with seven straight wins to begin 2013 but it's not how you start but how you finish with the Red Raiders ending the year with five defeats in a row where the defense allowed at least 38 points. The ASU D was in the bottom third nationally with around 420 yards and 31 points given up while the second ranked passing game averaged 392 yards which led to almost 36 points. The quarterback combo of Davis Webb and Baker Mayfield combined for 4,630 yards with 28 touchdowns and 18 interceptions but Mayfield is questionable for the Bowl. Jace Amaro (98-1240) and Eric Ward (80-904) were the gems of the receiving corps with Jakeem Grant and Bradley Marquez combining for 1,273 yards to give the Red Raiders four quality options. Running the ball wasn't a specialty with Kenny Williams and DeAndre Washington adding 779 yards on 210 carries in a four yards and a cloud of dust type attack.
With Texas Tech losing their top QB I don't know if they can keep up on the scoreboard with Arizona State. I lean to the over with the Sun Devils doing most of the scoring but I'll make any change by game day...
