The Virginia Tech Hokies take on the UCLA Bruins in the Sun Bowl at Sun Bowl Stadium.
Virginia Tech dropped their opener to Alabama before reeling off six consecutive victories and looking like a top team in the ACC. The Hokies stumbled to the finish line at 2-3 with all three defeats coming by a single score. The defense first Hokies relied on controlling the scoreboard and did for the most part with a mere 270 yards and 17 points given up as they were tough to move the ball on in any fashion. The offense did just enough with 359 yards and 23 points with the #58 passing attack doing most of the damage. Logan Thomas did struggle to connect with his receivers at 57% and made mistakes with 15 TD's and 13 picks but he did throw for 2,861 yards. Willie Byrn, Demitri Knowles and Joshua Stanford all recorded over 600 receiving yards and were interchangeable. The rushing attack was Trey Edmunds who totaled 675 yards on 166 tries for ten scores and a four yard average.

I guess you could say UCLA was the odd man out in the PAC 12 South at 6-3 which was good for second in the division behind Arizona State. The Bruins were a complete team with scoring and defensive ability although the offense was much more prolific. The D allowed 391 yards and 24 points which made things easy for an offense that totaled 449 yards and over 36 points with a nice blend of throwing and running.Brett Hundley was both accurate (67.8%) and productive (2,845 yards) with 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions so he generally limited mistakes as well. Shaquelle Evans led the receivers with 43 catches for 617 yards while Devin Fuller and Jordan Payton combined for 880 yards on 78 receptions. Hundley led the rushing attack with 587 yards but averaged just about four yards while Paul Perkins (126-570) and Jordan James (96-525) were productive options.
Virginia Tech will lean heavily on their defense but at some point the offense will have to score and keep the UCLA attack off the field. For now I'll lay the points but check back for an update...
