The Capital One Bowl features a battle between the Wisconsin Badgers and South Carolina Gamecocks.
Wisconsin was mentioned as a possible National Championship contender and might have been except for three defeats coming by a single score. The Badgers could score and defend and were stronger on the defensive side of the football with a mere 294 yards and 15 points allowed as they were equally tough to run or throw on. The run first attack produced 487 yards and 36 points behind the #8 rushing attack that put up 283 yards per contest. Joel Stave was solid under center with 2,414 yards with 20 TD's and 12 INT's with Jared Abbrederis the receiving star with 1,051 yards on 73 catches. The rushing attack was a two headed monster with Melvin Gordon (181-1466) and James White (209-1337)forming a potent duo.

South Carolina was another team penciled in as a national title contender before an early loss to Georgia threw a Monkey Wrench in to their plans. Still the Gamecocks combination of defense and scoring was tough to beat with the D giving up just 345 yards and 20 points. The Gamecocks totaled 453 yards and 34 points with ability to both run and throw. Connor Shaw enjoyed a phenominal season with 2,135 yards and an amazing 21 touchdowns against a single interception. Bruce Ellington (43-635) and Damiere Byrd (33-575) were the top receiving options while Mike Davis did the bulk of the damage on the ground. Davis rushed for 1,134 yards on 194 carries with five others combining for over 1,000 yards.
I would generally take the SEC over the Big Ten but I think Wisconsin is a strong and physical team that will do well here so for now I'll back the Badgers but check back on game day...
