The Alabama Crimson Tide face the Oklahoma Sooners at the Mercede-Benz Superdome in the Sugar Bowl.
It almost seems like the days of competing for the National Championship have passed Oklahoma by although that might be a bit of an exaggeration. At 10-2 the Sooners are anything but chumps with decent play from both sides of the ball. Defensively OU was extremely good with only 336 yards and 21 points allowed and were equally tough to run and throw on. The offense was all about running the ball with 236 yards of their 422 yards coming on the ground which ended up in almost 32 points. Blake Bell was solid under center in limited throws with 1,648 yards for 12 touchdowns versus five picks with Jalen Saunders and Sterling Shepard combining for nearly 1,200 yards on 100 catches. Brennan Clay led an above average rushing attack with 913 yards on 158 carries but three others combined for over 1,300 yards.

A fluke return for a touchdown on a missed field goal against Auburn on the final play of the SEC title game was all that stood between Alabama and an undefeated season, not to mention another National Championship. The numbers were championship caliber with the defense allowing just 275 yards and a mere eleven points with top ten units against both the run and pass. The offense averaged nearly 450 yards and 39 points with the run accounting for 212 yards with the D obviously giving this unit great field position. AJ McCarron was a star under center with 2,676 yards and 26 touchdowns against only five interceptions. Amari Cooper (36-615) and Kevin Norwood (36-538) led the receiving corps that had plenty of options. TJ Yeldon was the star of the rushing attack with 1,163 yards on 190 touches while Kenyan Drake (92-694) provided quality production in relief.
Oklahoma can run the ball but stopping the run is an Alabama specialty. I belive the Crimson Tide show up big on both sides of the ball and cover but I have a few days to look this over...
