The Line: Mississippi Rebels +10 -- Over/Under: 56 See the Latest Odds

The Ole Miss Rebels and the Boise State Broncos kick off their 2014 College Football seasons on Thursday Night in Atlanta.

The Ole Miss Rebels are a team I am excited to see this season as despite going just 2-5 in SEC play, Hugh Freeze’s team was playing strong and look to be talented. Bo Wallace returns at QB and he was up and down last season with the big win over LSU and then had four turnovers in the Rebels loss in the Egg Bowl to rival Mississippi State. I am also looking forward to seeing 300-pound QB Jeremy Liggins. I’Tavius Mathers and  Jaylen Walton are both experienced running backs and are capable. Laquon Treadwell had 72 catches last season but he will get a lot of attention with Donte Moncrief gone. Laremy Tunsil is NFL ready at left tackle but I see the offensive line at Ole Miss as a weakness. Last year’s pass rush for the Rebels was one of the most disappointing things but this season Robert Nkemdiche has a year under his belt and with C.J. Johnson they should be a force. Serderius Bryant should be a force again this season at LB as should Denzel Nkemdiche but DB Cody Prewitt is a ball hawk and probably the best defensive player on an Ole Miss unit that returns nine starters. Ole Miss has no experience in the kicking game and we will have to wait and see what the effect of that will be.

This should be an interesting year for the Boise State Broncos as Chris Petersen is gone to Washington and offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin takes over. While the BSU accomplished a ton with Petersen, he replaced an “irreplaceable” coach when he came in and it has been Harsin’s offense that has been Boise’s trademark. QB Grant Hendrick played plenty last year throwing for 22 TD’s and 9 INT’s and he should only be better. Running back Jay Ajayi is back after scoring 19 touchdowns last season. Boise State also returns both WR’s as Matt Miller had 1,140 yards and 12 TD’s and Shane Williams-Rhodes had seven touchdowns. The offensive line only returns two starters and should have plenty of freshman and sophomores. The Boise State defense was horrible last season ranking an uncharacteristic 75th in the nation but this season they should be a lot better. LB Ben Weaver was the Broncos leading tackler last year as a freshman and Corey Bell moves to safety from LB and Deonte Deayon is the best of the corners. Dan Goodale was 17 of 19 on field goals last year and Bryan Douglas is just fun to watch in the return game.

Ole Miss is 5-0-1 against the spread in neutral site games and 19-7 against the spread in non-conference games. Boise State is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight neutral site games, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games.

The total in this one is at 55.5 but I see this one as a game where the defense gets it done and makes it uncomfortable for the offenses who aren’t in mid-season sync as of yet so my free pick is going to be on the under. I also have a strong pick on who will cover the point spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
