The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners open their 2014 campaign on the road against the Houston Cougars.
Larry Coker has taken the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners football program from an idea to a possible Bowl contender in a matter of a few years. His 2014 Roadrunners are as experienced as any team except at quarterback where the only signal caller the team has known in Eric Sosa is gone. All we know about Roadrunners backup Tucker Carter is he threw for over 2,600 yards on 61% in JC which isn't too shabby. UTSA was the model of spreading the ball around and if you were on the field you had the opportunity to run or catch the football. Texas-San Antonio has everyone returning on the O-Line so offense is set if the quarterback spot is adequate while the defense returns a full compliment of players.

The Houston Cougars gets the majority of their team back from last season that was one of the most opportunistic in the nation. It seemed that every ball that hit the ground or UH got their hands on otherwise resulted in a turnover. If the Cougars D can get half of those giveaways the team will be in great shape with virtually every major contributor returning. Houston QB John O'Korn was a 3,000 yard passer and should improve upon his 58% accuracy and overall production with a veteran receiving corps to lean on if he can avoid a late season slump that he fell victim to in 2013. A dependable rushing attack with a decent line should produce enough scoring for a Cougars defense that avoided the shootouts of prior seasons.
Both teams have plenty of returning players in a game Houston pulled away to win with late scoring in 2013. I'm leaning Cougars but Texas-San Antonio has the makings of a decent team...
