The Line: Florida Gators -35 -- Over/Under: 52 See the Latest Odds

The Idaho Vandals face a long trip south to open 2014 with a visit to the Florida Gators.

The Idaho Vandals had big issues on both sides of the ball and Paul Petrino is hoping that the returning players mixed with a high number of JUCO transfers will be the basis for improvement. Idaho lists Matt Linehan ahead of Chad Chalich who completed 61% of his throws in 2013 despite getting sacked 30 times and constantly being hit before a shoulder injury ended his season. The Vandals dismissed potential 1,000 yard receiver Dezmon Epps (DUI/theft) which makes Deon Watson the top WR while Elijhaa Penny and Kristoffer Olugbode will try to boost the ground game behind a veteran line. The front seven have potential while the secondary needs improvement but we have to see this team play before making claims.

I guess the Florida Gators will always be remembered for their National Championships and because of that the casual fan associates greatness with this team. However the reality is UF finished with a 4-8 mark in 2013. Granted, Florida injuries played a role with quarterback Jeff Driskel one of the most notable players who had his season cut short. Driskel is back along with wide receiver Quinton Dunbar while Mack Brown and Kelvin Taylor return to pace a ground attack didn't stand out. The Gators offensive line gets five back with starting experience but the offense as a whole is one to watch and see if there is some consistent scoring to be found to help out the defense that was forced to carry the load.

Florida isn't the 900 pound gorillia they once were but Idaho isn't going to pull some huge upset here. Having said that, the Gators still have a huge edge in talent but whether they press the issue as a five TD favorite is a concern and I'm not really interested to be honest...
