The Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Baltimore to face the option of the Navy Midshipmen.
The Ohio State Buckeyes come in to 2014 with the Big Ten title and the National Championship on their radar although those hopes were put on hold with the shoulder injury to quarterback Braxton Miller. The Buckeyes will go with JT Barrett under center as he and Cardale Jones have been fighting to backup Braxton in case just such a scenario arose. Ohio State will lean on Devin Smith to catch the majority of Barrett's throws but there will be no shortage of quality targets. I'm sure OSU will miss Carlos Hyde in the running game but I think Ezekiel Elliott and Dontre Wilson will be able to step in and produce if the new faces on the O-Line are stable. The Buckeyes front seven is experienced and if the secondary is stable opposing attacks won't have an easy go of it.

Recruiting and fielding a quality team in any sport is difficult at best for any of the service academies but Navy Midshipmen seem to prosper for lack of a better word. Certainly the option attack can hide some flaws and perfect execution helps even more but the Midshipmen seem to draw every shred of talent they can from their players. The Navy attack all begins with Keenan Reynolds who decides the who, where and when of ball distribution. The Middies can not afford to lose their field general because we are not only talking about a 1,000 yard passer and 1,500 yard runner we are talking about the key decision maker. Navy will produce on the ground with virtually everybody getting touches but the key will be on the defensive side of the football where a few parts have to be replaced.
I know Braxton made Ohio State a National Championship contender but this team is loaded with four and five star recruits and Navy is going to have their hands full if I was the quarterback which says something about the immense talent of OSU. This is an odd game to predict because the Middies have been preparing to face Braxton and Barrett brings some mystery to the table. Having said that the Ohio State defense will be cut block all afternoon and I'm hoping Navy will score enough to be within shouting distance. Please stay tuned for changes that might effect this pick and I'll update a few days before the game...
