The Line: Nebraska Cornhuskers -23 -- Over/Under: 51 See the Latest Odds

The Florida Atlantic Owls and Nebraska Cornhuskers meet Saturday at Memorial Stadium to kick off the 2014 college football season.

The Florida Atlantic Owls return a lot of last year’s team that won six games in its first season in the C-USA. The Owls offense is once again going to be led by quarterback Jaquez Johnson, who threw for 1,866 yards and 12 touchdowns, while rushing for 767 yards and 10 touchdowns. FAU also has an extremely underrated wide receiver in William Dukes and a running back in Jay Warren, who averaged close to five yards per carry last season. The Florida Atlantic Owls have promise offensively but need to improve last year’s average of 26.4 points per game to take that next step. Defensively, the Owls return their main core in D’Joun Smith, Damian Parms, Brandin Bryant and Andrae Kirk. Last year, Florida Atlantic had the 11th best defense in the country and those numbers could remain about the same with the amount of talent and experience returning.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Florida Atlantic Owls NCAAF Odds, Pick, Prediction - 8/30/14

The Nebraska Cornhuskers return 11 starters from last year’s team including Ameer Abdullah, who is one of the best running backs in the country. Abdullah rushed for close to 1,700 rushing yards last season and caught more than 20 passes for the second straight season. While Abdullah is good enough to make Nebraska a threat in the Big Ten, quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. will have the tall order of improving a passing offense that ranked 98th in the country. Armstrong completed just 51.9 percent of his passes a year ago. Defensively, the Nebraska Cornhuskers should be much better off with guys such as Randy Gregory, Josh Mitchell and Trevor Roach carrying that side of the ball. Last year, Nebraska had the 39th best defense in the country.

The Owls are 12-1 ATS in their last 13 road games and 17-5 ATS in their last 22 games overall. The Cornhuskers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf.

It's no secret that the Nebraska Cornhuskers are the better team and should win this game. However, FAU has a terrific secondary and a quarterback that can takeover a game if you aren't careful. Look for the Owls to keep this game closer than expected and cover the spread.
