Instate rivals the North Texas Mean Green and the Texas Longhorns take the field to kickoff 2014.
The North Texas Mean Green are looking for a return to the postseason with an experienced team that has a few key voids to fill. Transfer Josh Greer appears to have locked up the UNT quarterback job and the ideal scenario would be to throw for the yards Derek Thompson did minus the 13 interceptions. The Mean Green feature Carlos Harris as the top target with Darnell Smith and Brelan Chancellor graduating but he will need much more help. The Mean Green ran the ball a bit more then threw it but the departure of workhorse Brandin Byrd leaves Antoinne Jimmerson and Reggie Pegram to shoulder the load. The line has plenty of experience so keeping the ball on the ground should be a strength. The front seven have some holes to fill but the secondary should be solid.

There is no question that the hiring of Charlie Strong is the biggest story for the Texas Longhorns heading in to 2014. The biggest question is how many games will be won for a fanbase that wants Big 12 titles and National Championship's. The health and production of Texas quarterback David Ash is something we'll just have to wait and see but if he stays 100% the entire receiving corp is back minus top target Mike Davis. Malcolm Brown and Jonathan Gray give the Longhorns punch on the ground while Ash himself can chip in for a few yards although his injury history suggests hits need to be limited which is a concern with an O-Line that lost four starters. The defense has experience across the board although there were times this unit wasn't much of a factor a year ago.
With the spread being so large there is always the threat of being back doored which makes me avoid these types of games. I still don't like it but that's never stopped me before...
