The Southern Methodist Mustangs visit McLane Stadium to take on the high octane Baylor Bears.
The pass happy Southern Methodist Mustangs put the ball in the air over 600 times a season ago but with QB Garrett Gilbert gone will that continue to be the MO? The Mustangs passing attack falls to the right arm of Neal Burcham who gets wide receiver Darius Joseph back whose 103 catches is 70 more then the next highest total among the receiving corps. The rushing attack was almost a forgotten part of the SMU offense with Prescott Line the leading runner back but he averaged less then four yards per carry. Three members of the offense line return as do virtually everyone among the front seven but the secondary will field many new faces.

The Baylor Bears have a reputation for big time scoring and it's a well deserved accolade with few teams being able to keep up with this team on the scoreboard. Bears quarterback Bryce Petty threw for 4,200 yards with 32 touchdowns versus three picks which is ridiculous considering the ball was in the air 400+ times. The Baylor receiving unit will have some familiar faces back in Antwan Goodley, Levi Norwood and Corey Coleman while Shock Linwood will see an increased workload on the ground with the departure of top back Lache Seastrunk. The offensive line gets back 3-6 but good use some quality depth. The Baylor defense is experience in the front seven but has concerns in the secondary.
Baylor should be able to score aplenty versus Southerm Methodist but will the Mustangs be able to do enough scoring to stay within a massive spread? This really isn't my type of game but if Baylor has the firepower to cover if you want to take a shot...
