The Auburn Tigers and the San Jose State Spartans face off on Saturday at Auburn in a week two college football matchup.
The Auburn Tigers looked very much like the defending SEC Champions on Saturday as they shook off a sluggish start to blow out Arkansas in the second half. Jeremy Johnson started at QB as Nick Marshall was suspended but when Marshall hit the field in the second half the Auburn offense exploded for 24 unanswered points. Cameron Artis-Payne looked ready to take over in the Auburn backfield rushing for 177 yards and a touchdown and Corey Grant looked like a viable option as well rushing for 87 yards and a touchdown. While Auburn isn’t known as a passing team D’haquille Williams had nine catches for 154 yards and a touchdown. Dfensively Auburn was vulnerable in the first half but stiffened in the second half allowing just 328 yards for the game and no points in the second half. Jermaine Whitehead had seven tackles and an interception, Jonathan Mincy had seven tackles, and Cassanova McKinzy had six tackles including a sack. Auburn looks to have picked up where they left last year and have to be at least in the conversation for the national playoff.

The San Jose State Spartans got their season started with a win and while it was convincing, it was against FCS North Dakota, not to be confused with FCS power North Dakota State. The SJSU offense racked up 4-6 yards and they put 42 points o the board. QB Blake Jurich completed a remarkable 88 percent of his passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns and he ran for another touchdown. Thomas Tucker carried the load in the backfield gaining 81 yards and Tyler Winston led all receivers with 10 catches and two touchdowns. San Jose State’s defense allowed 10 points and 244 yards with the touchdown coming late. Travis Raciti and Christian Tago led the defense with six tackles each and Cleveland Wallace had an interception. San Jose State isn’t the doormat they were a few years ago but they will face a serious test here.
Auburn is 8-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games, and 11-1 following a win. San Jose State is 8-2 against the spread following a win, 11-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 19-7 against the spread in their last 26 road games.
I am expecting plenty of scoring here and my free pick is going to be on the over.
