The Eastern Michigan Eagles and Florida Gators will square off Saturday afternoon at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles won a thriller of a season opener with a 31-28 victory over the Morgan State Bears. The Eagles relied heavily on their running game averaging over five yards per carry, and Bronson Hill led the way with 114 yards. Eastern Michigan has to get more consistent quarterback play out of Reginald Bell Jr. and Brogan Roback, as the two combined for 18 completions for just 99 yards and zero touchdowns. A one-dimensional Eastern Michigan offense has no chance against a Florida Gators defense. Defensively, the Eastern Michigan Eagles allowed 479 yards, including 210 yards on the ground. Pat O'Connor led the way with three tackles for loss, while Nathan Adams and Gary White Jr. both blocked a kick in the victory.

The Florida Gators had their season debut against the Idaho Vandals suspended due to a massive rain storm and lightening that wouldn’t go away. So, it looks like this is the game where we find out how much the Gators offense has improved under offensive coordinator Kurt Roper. Quarterback Jeff Driskel has received nothing but positive comments throughout camp, but as we’ve seen in the past, it’s all about what you do on the field that matters. Regardless, the Florida Gators will go as far as the defense carries it, as Florida had a Top 10 defense last season and should have similar results with guys such as Vernon Hargreaves III, Dante Fowler and Jonathan Bullard returning for another season. Will Muschamp and Florida fans can only hope for a more balanced team this season that is capable of replacing last year’s 4-8 record with nothing but happy thoughts.
The Eagles are 15-37 ATS in their last 52 non-conference games and 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games overall. The Gators are 10-3-1 ATS in their last 14 games in September and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games overall.
I know Florida is head and shoulders better than Eastern Michigan, but they were head and shoulders better than Georgia Southern last season as well and still lost. Sure, new season, but I'm all about seeing things and trust before I invest my money in you. I'm not 100 percent confident that the Eagles can keep this close, but I'll take the truckload of points with a gun to my head.
