The Idaho Vandals travel to Malone Stadium to open their Sun Belt schedule with the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks.
A second half rally carried the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks past the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 17-10 in week number one. This game was dominated by the Warhawks although the scoreboard said different with Wake held to 94 yards and five first downs. UL Monroe totaled 351 yards and had the ball for over 35 minutes but had a punt blocked and returned for six and never found the groove. Pete Thomas threw for 189 yards and ran for a touchdown with Kenzee Jackson leading six other Warhawks receivers with six catches for 83 yards while Centarius Donald ran for 117 yards on 26 carries. The defense also helped out in the scoring column with Mitch Lane's 31 yard pick six that knotted the sore at 10-10 in the 3rd quarter.

The Idaho Vandals had their opener wiped because of storms so this game is their official start. HC Paul Petrino is hoping that the returning players mixed with a high number of JUCO transfers will get the Vandals pointed in the right direction. Idaho lists Matt Linehan ahead of Chad Chalich at QB after completing 61% of his throws in 2013 despite getting sacked 30 times and constantly hit before a shoulder injury ended his season. The Vandals dismissed potential 1,000 yard receiver Dezmon Epps (DUI/theft) which makes Deon Watson the top WR while Elijhaa Penny and Kristoffer Olugbode will try to boost the ground game behind a veteran line. The front seven have potential while the secondary needs improvement but we have to see this team play before making claims.
I am so accustomed to seeing Idaho lose big in the past that I often ignored the chalk but I do think the Vandals are improved enough to stay within a few touchdowns here...
