The Line: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -6 -- Over/Under: 54.5 See the Latest Odds
The Michigan Wolverines and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will continue their historic rivalry Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium.
The Michigan Wolverines took care of the Appalachian State Mountaineers easily by a score of 52-14. Devin Gardner looked like the quarterback from a couple of years ago, completing 13 of 14 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns, while Derrick Green had 170 rushing yards on just 15 carries. After a Michigan team that struggled to move the ball last season, the Wolverines offense was flawless in week one. Devin Funchess has a chance to be one of the better pass catchers in the Big Ten after hauling in three touchdowns. Defensively, the Michigan Wolverines came away with two sacks and didn’t allow a single point in the first half. Of course, this upcoming game will tell us just how much Michigan has improved from a year ago.
USA TODAY Sports
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish won their cupcake game by defeating the Rice Owls, 48-17. Everett Golson looked like he didn’t miss a beat, as the Notre Dame quarterback threw for 295 yards and scored five total touchdowns. The Irish averaged 6.7 yards per carry and finished the game with 576 yards overall. Running back Greg Bryant looks like he’s going to live up to the hype and Amir Carlisle has a chance to be something special for the Irish now that he’s finally healthy. Defensively, Notre Dame produced two sacks and two turnovers, as senior Matthias Farley produced his fourth interception of his career. Like Michigan, the lack of competition still raises questions just how good the Irish can be, but it was still a solid opening matchup and only has Notre Dame fans thinking this could be a great season after all.
My strong play on this game will be on the side, which I will post in the premium area and on the app.
Big game, both teams like to run the football. I have this game going under the projected total.
