The Howard Bison and Rutgers Scarlet Knights play a week 2 game Saturday at High Point Solutions Stadium.
The Howard Bison were absolutely embarrassed by the Akron Zips, 41-0. Quarterback Greg McGhee had just 68 passing yards on 12 completions, and the Bison finished the game with just 216 yards and were a brutal 3-18 on third down attempts. Howard’s only bright spot offensively was running back Terrence Tusan, who racked up 60 rushing yards on 18 carries. Needless to say, the Howard Bison have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball and a short time to see results with this road trip here. Defensively, Devin Rollins leads the Bison with seven tackles and Damon Gresham-Chisholm blocked a kick.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the weekend by beating the Washington State Cougars, 41-38. Gary Nova threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns, while the real star was Paul James, who racked up 173 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Rutgers has something going with its running game that racked up five yards per carry and can win many ball games if that continues, as it’ll take pressure off Nova to make plays. Defensively, the Scarlet Knights have work to do, as they allowed 532 passing yards and 28 combined points in the second and third quarter. The bright side for Rutgers is that freshman Kemoko Turay had two tackles for loss and Justin Goodwin had an interception in his first game since switching from running back to cornerback. Overall, the Rutgers had an impressive debut in the Big Ten.
Are the Scarlet Knights going to take this game seriously and really look to run up the score? I don't think so. I look for Rutgers to get a comfortable lead and take their foot off the gas pedel already looking forward to next week. I don't love this game, but if forced to make a pick, I'm taking the points.
