The Utah Utes and the Fresno State Bulldogs face off on Saturday in a week two college football matchup.
The Utah Utes scheduled lightly for week one and face Idaho State and as expected they blew them out of the building in a game there was really no reason at all to play. The Utah offense racked up 56 points and 589 yards against their clearly over matched opponent. QB Travis Wilson threw for 265 yards and a touchdown before taking a seat and DeVontae Booker, Bubba Poole, and Troy McCormick were three of the eight Ute ball carriers. Westlee Tonga had five receptions to lead Utah and Dres Anderson and Kenneth Scott each had four catches to lead the Utah receivers. The Utah defense allowed 337 yards and 14 points. Nate Orchard had eight tackles including 2.5 sacks, Jared Norris had eight tackles, and Uaea Masina had six tackles. While Utah played a game, playing against far lesser competition is less meaningful than an intersquad scrimmage.

The Fresno State Bulldogs looked completely over matched in week on as they were crushed by USC. The Fresno State offense managed just 13 points and 317 total yards of offense. QB Brandon Connette had a game to forget throwing for 68 yards and three interceptions while Brian Burrell had no answers throwing for 92 yards and an interception. Marteze Waller was the best of the bunch for Fresno State rushing for 97 yards and two touchdowns and Josh Harper had six receptions. Week one was a defensive implosion for Fresno State as they allowed 701 yards and 52 points including 424 yards through the air. Kyrie Wilson had 13 tackles, Derron Smith had 11 tackles, and Curtis Riley had nine tackles for a defense that was on the field all day. Fresno State was hoping to be competitive in week one but they weren’t even close.
Utah is 5-0 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 home games, and 2-8 against the spread following a win. Fresno State is 4-0 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 2-7 against the spread against the Pac-12, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
After seeing Fresno State in week one I have to believe this team isn’t ready to play the big boys and while Utah has yet to show they can compete with the best of he Pac-12, they take care of business in this OOC matchuo and get the cover though this is just a lean.
