The Houston Cougars and BYU Cougars will square off Thursday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
The Houston Cougars bounced back from their loss to UTSA with a win over Grambling State but still have a point to prove heading into this matchup. Houston looks like it will have rely heavily on its defense to win games, a side of the ball that has produced seven turnovers already. In fact, the Houston Cougars forced at least one turnover in 25 straight games. Efrem Oliphant leads Houston with 25 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, while Derrick Mathews also has 1.5 tackles for loss. Offense is where Houston continues to struggle, as quarterback John O'Korn is completing just 52.2 percent of his passes and has four interceptions. However, that’s not to say the Houston Cougars don’t have offensive playmakers, as Kenneth Farrow is averaging 7.6 yards per carry and Deontay Greenberry has 206 receiving yards on 11 receptions.

The BYU Cougars are looking like a dangerous team right now with blowout wins over Connecticut and Texas. Quarterback Taysom Hill is playing out of his mind, completing 73 percent of his passes for 489 yards and rushing for 196 yards and five touchdowns. At this rate, Taysom Hill could be a potential Heisman candidate if he can continue to lead the Cougars to victories. Hill leads a balanced BYU offense that is now averaging a solid 38 points per game heading into this matchup. Defensively, the BYU Cougars have seven sacks, six turnovers and are allowing less than nine points per game. Zac Stout leads BYU with 16 tackles and Bronson Kaufusi has two sacks to his credit.
Houston is 7-0 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. BYU is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 home games and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games following a S.U. win.
Maybe I'm crazy, but this line is way too high. Yes, I know the Cougars are playing well and this is their first home game. However, Houston has an above-average defense and a couple of guys who can make plays offensively. I'd call you insane to leave this many points on the table.
