The Florida Gators and Kentucky Wildcats face off on Saturday in The Swamp for a SEC college football matchup.
After being stopped by the weather in week one, the Florida Gators finally got their 2014 CFB season underway stomping Eastern Michigan in week 2 in Gainesville. UF got it started putting on an offensive show, something we didn’t see from last year. Florida QB Jeff Driskel threw the ball 45 times and had a touchdown pass. Matt Jones and Mack Brown are back in the backfield for the Gators and along with Kelvin Taylor they are spreading the ball around. Clay Burton leads Florida in receptions and they are look for Quinton Dunbar to come up with a big year. The Florida defense recovered four fumbles, had an interceptions and three sacks in the slaughter. Neiron Ball was responsible for two of the Gators sacks and Michael Taylor had six tackles. Florida didn’t get much of a challenge but the schedule dictates there will be plenty of tough challenges ahead.
USA TODAY Sports
The Kentucky Wildcats have looked far from perfect in their first two games but mark Stoops appears to have the headed in the right direction. UK seemed to give Ohio plenty of chances in week two but the Wildcat defense didn’t allow much. Patrick Towles just hasn’t made any mistakes at QB not doing anything spectacular and not throwing any interceptions while rushing the ball 25 times. Mikel Horton and Jojo Kemp each have 17 carries with Horton finding the endzone twice. Ryan Timmons has been Kentucky’s best receiver with 13 catches but he has no touchdowns as Dorian Baker and Blake Bone have TD receptions. The Kentucky defense has two interceptions, four fumble recoveries and five sacks and stats like those will help any team improve in a hurry. A.J. Stamps leads UK with 14 tackles and an interception, Khalid Henderson has 13 tackles, and Regie Meant has two sacks. We will see exactly where Kentucky stands as a program after this game.
Florida is 10-21-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 6-13 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 home games. Kentucky is 5-16 against the spread in their last 21 road games, 8-20 against the spread in their last 28 SEC games, and 1-7 following a win. The favorite has covered the point spread in the last seven meetings of these two.
While Florida had a big week last week and are loaded with athletes, I am less than sold on them and getting this many points it is a lean to Kentucky.
