Ladd-Peebles Stadium will be hopping when the South Alabama Jaguars square off with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs survived a stronger then expected test at Alabama-Birmingham to emerge with a 47-34 decision last Saturday. The Blazers were a handful as they actually led the battle for real estate 548-516 but the Bulldogs ability to run the ballle avoiding mistakes was a difference maker on offense. Dak Prescott was just 12-15 passing but he was productive with 211 yards and four touchdowns versus a pick while adding 118 yards and a score with his legs while leading the Bulldogs on the ground was Josh Robinson and his 124 yards. The defense recorded a pick six but also were torched for 75 yard and 88 yard TD passes.

The South Alabama Jaguars opened the 2014 campaign with a 23-13 victory at Kent State. It really wasn't a thing of beauty with the offense totaling 347 yards and punting ten times. Fortunately the defense was outstanding with the Golden Flashes limited to 277 yards while recording a safety. The Jaguars had decent enough individual numbers with Brandon Bridge completing 15-25 throws for 161 yards and a touchdown with Marvin Shinn catching a 58 yard pass. Jay Jones gave USA some punch on the ground with 102 yards on 21 carries with a pair of trips to the endzone but things didn't come easy.
I am rooting for USA to pull the upset but from what I see Mississippi State is bigger and faster and has the edge at the skill positions. The area that would concern the Bulldogs is their lack of discipline on defense which is the Jaguars strength. Of course USA has to score at some point...
