The Wake Forest Demon Deacons head out to Utah to play the Utah State Aggies on Saturday night.
Wake Forest earned their first win of the year, beating Gardner-Webb 23-7 last weekend. The Demon Deacons lost to UL Monroe 17-10 on the road in week one. Wake Forest gained 387 total yards against Gardner-Webb but they turned the ball over 3 times in the win. QB John Wolford completed 30 of 38 passes for 291 yards to go along with 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. WR E.J. Scott caught 4 balls for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Orville Reynolds carried the ball 17 times for 54 yards. The Wake Forest defense forced 1 turnover and held Gardner-Webb to only 131 total yards. Keep in mind, the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs are an FCS football team and Wake Forest shouldn’t have had any problem beating them. The Demon Deacons will head out on the road again and will need to step it up to earn a win this weekend.

The Utah State Aggies improved to 1-1 on the season after beating Idaho State 40-20 at home last weekend. The Aggies lost their season opener at Tennessee 38-7. Last weekend, Utah State produced 427 total yards against Idaho State. The Aggies turned the ball over twice and only converted 4 of 14 on 3rd down. QB Chuckie Keeton completed 13 of 30 passes for 116 yards with one interception. Keeton led the Aggies in rushing with 74 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown. WR JoJo Natson led the team in receiving with 6 catches for 59 yards. The Utah State defense allowed 408 total yards, but was able to force 4 turnovers against Idaho State. Utah State failed in the first attempt against a power conference opponent, but they will have another chance this weekend and they will be at home.
This game should be interesting, as Utah State has the superior offense in this matchup, but Wake Forest has the better defense. Wake Forest has shown nothing to make me believe that they can beat an average or better football team right now. The Demon Deacons will have their hands full with Chuckie Keeton and the Aggies offense. However, the biggest question is how much can Wake Forest move the ball and produce points. I think this will be a low scoring game and I will tentatively take the points with Wake Forest.
