The Connecticut Huskies and South Florida Bulls square off Friday night at Raymond James Stadium.
The Connecticut Huskies nearly upset the Boise State Broncos last week but still managed to fall to 1-2 on the season. UConn is a team that’s struggling mightily to move the football, as quarterback Chandler Whitmer is completing just 49.3 percent of his passes and the running game is averaging just 1.9 yards per carry. Wide receiver Geremy Davis is really the only explosive offensive player the Huskies have, but he was held to three catches last week and sometimes finds it difficult to get open. UConn simply isn’t going to win many games this year averaging just 16.7 points per game. Defensively, the Connecticut Huskies are allowing 368.3 yards per game and have forced three turnovers and three sacks. Marquise Vann leads UConn with 29 tackles and Graham Stewart has 2.5 tackles for loss.

It looks like it’s going to be another tough year for the South Florida Bulls after dropping games to Maryland and north Carolina State. South Florida is a very young football team that’s going to spend this season trying to find itself, but freshman running back Marlon Mack has stud written all over him. In just three games, Mack has has 399 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Mack has given the Bulls a chance to be competitive but it doesn’t help when Mike White and Steven Bench are completing a combined 35.7 percent of their passes. South Florida is averaging just 23.3 points per game and is one of the worst passing teams in the country. Defensively, the South Florida Bulls are allowing 453.3 yards per game and have forced eight sacks and 10 turnovers. Jamie Byrd leads South Florida with 25 tackles and an interception, while Nigel Harris has three forced fumbles.
The Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 games overall. The Bulls are 5-21-1 ATS in their last 27 home games and 10-25-1 ATS in their last 36 games overall. The road team is 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
This game has ugly written all over it. However, I like the progress Bob Diaco has made in the first few games with UConn, and I think their experience will be the difference here against a very young South Florida squad. Give me the Huskies to win this game SU.
